Project Description
Istana Sofa Restoration for Muzium Istana Mangga Tunggal by Mr Sofa

Istana sofa restoration is more than normal sofa repair. It protects history, memories, and heritage value. Mr Sofa was honoured to be involved in the restoration process of sofa jati furniture for Muzium Istana Mangga Tunggal. For this special project, we used European vintage floral fabric to reupholster the sofa set. We also varnished the wooden frame to refresh its classic palace appearance.

About Istana Mangga Tunggal
Istana Mangga Tunggal is a historical palace located in Pekan, Pahang. The palace carries deep royal and sentimental value because it is linked to the childhood memories of Al-Sultan Abdullah. The name comes from a mango tree that produced only one fruit each season. Today, the palace displays royal portraits, antique items, and original furniture. Therefore, every restoration work must respect its heritage character. The furniture inside is not only decoration. It also tells a story about family, memory, culture, and royal history.
Why Istana Sofa Restoration Is Important
Old palace furniture often has strong sentimental value. Many pieces use carved jati wood, classic floral fabric, and traditional craftsmanship. However, age, dust, sunlight, and daily handling can affect the fabric and wood finish. As a result, the sofa may look tired even when the frame is still strong.
Therefore, Istana sofa restoration helps preserve the original beauty of the furniture. It also keeps the sofa suitable for museum display. Instead of replacing the whole set, restoration allows the original character to remain.

European Vintage Floral Fabric for a Classic Look
For this project, Mr Sofa selected European vintage floral fabric. This fabric suits the palace sofa because it has a soft classic pattern. It also matches the carved jati wood frame and the royal interior setting.
In addition, floral fabric gives the sofa a warm heritage style. The pattern creates a timeless look. It also helps the furniture blend well with antique décor, framed photographs, red carpets, and traditional palace surroundings.
Careful Reupholstery for Sentimental Value Sofa Jati
Our team handled the sofa jati with care. First, we checked the frame, cushion, fabric, and finishing details. Then, we removed the old upholstery carefully. This step helped protect the carved wood and decorative details.
Next, we reupholstered the sofa using the selected vintage floral fabric. We also adjusted the fitting so the fabric sat neatly on the sofa shape. Moreover, we paid attention to the armrest, backrest, seat cushion, and edge finishing.
Wood Frame Varnishing by Mr Sofa
Besides fabric work, Mr Sofa also varnished the wooden frame. Varnishing helps revive the look of the jati wood. It adds a cleaner finish and improves the overall presentation.
This step is important for heritage furniture because the wood frame is part of the sofa’s identity. A good finish can highlight the carved details while keeping the antique character.
