Condition of the Recliner Before Restoration

The original dark leather showed several signs of ageing. The surface had become wrinkled and dry. In addition, cracks and torn sections appeared around the backrest, seat, arm pads, and rear cover.

The matching footstool also had visible wear and surface cracking. However, the chair frame remained stable. The swivel base still rotated smoothly, while the reclining function continued to work properly.

Therefore, Mr Sofa recommended replacing the damaged leather while retaining the original frame, wooden components, mechanism, and footstool structure.

Reupholstered with Quality Cow Hide Leather

The customer chose  one of our best Genuine Leather collection – Uruguay Pigmented leather for this restoration project. This leather offers a natural surface, comfortable feel, and good durability. Moreover, it is suitable for recliners that receive frequent daily use.

The customer also chose a lighter leather colour. This new shade created a cleaner and more modern appearance. At the same time, it matched the original wooden swivel base beautifully.

Our Stressless Recliner Reupholstery Process

Inspection and Careful Dismantling

First, our upholstery team inspected the chair, footstool, leather panels, cushions, stitching, wooden base, and reclining mechanism. Next, we carefully removed the worn leather cover. This step allowed us to protect the original structure and reusable components.

Measuring, Cutting, and Sewing

After dismantling, we measured every original upholstery section. We then used those measurements to cut the new cow hide leather accurately. Precise cutting was important because each panel needed to follow the chair’s original shape.

Our team stitched the new leather panels for the headrest, backrest, seat, arm pads, side sections, and rear cover. We also reupholstered the matching footstool using the same leather colour and stitching style.

Leather Installation and Quality Inspection

Next, we fitted the completed leather covers onto the recliner. Our upholsterers adjusted the leather tension carefully to create a smooth, balanced, and comfortable finish.

Finally, we inspected the stitching, swivel movement, reclining action, cushion support, and overall appearance. We also cleaned the wooden base before returning the restored recliner to the customer in Bangsar KL.
